About Troy

Established in 1838, Troy is a vibrant city that offers world-class amenities while preserving its important ties to the past. The City of Troy is a unique blend of small-town values with big-city opportunities. On February 4, 1843, Troy was officially incorporated, and this is the date that the town has chosen to observe as its birth date.

Nestled just south of Montgomery and just north of Dothan, the City of Troy, Alabama, offers visitors the charm of a small city along with a stimulating urban environment. Troy has a beautiful and vibrant downtown square filled with restaurants, antique shops and local museums. As the county seat of Pike County, Troy offers her residents and visitors beautiful parks, quaint streets, Victorian homes and historic sites. Area shopping and progressive businesses are found here as well.  Selected as the 2010 Corporate Investment and Community Impact Award Winner by Trade and Industry Development Magazine, Troy is on the cutting edge of economic development. From the Johnson Center for the Arts, to TroyFest to the Dixie Boys World Series, Troy has many exciting things to do.

We are proud to be the home to Troy University. In 2010, Forbes Magazine ranked Troy University 16th nationally as a “best buy” in higher education, and for the sixth year in a row, The Princeton Review named TROY to its “Best in the Southeast” list that includes 133 colleges and university in the Southeast. Only 623 colleges and universities nationwide made the cut for inclusion. The City of Troy was recently named one of the "Top 50 College Towns to live in Forever" by College Ranker. In addition to NCAA sporting events, Troy University also is home to the Claudia Crosby Community Theater and the Alabama Bandmaster’s Hall of Fame.
